How to Read a Lesson on Guitar Trainer

Every lesson has three key elements: sheet music, tablature, and explanatory text. Knowing how to read them together is the foundation of effective practice.

When you open a lesson on Guitar Trainer, the screen always shows the same three elements, in the same order. Understanding them helps you get the most out of every practice session.

The Sheet Music and Tablature

The first thing you see when opening a lesson is the sheet music with its corresponding tablature. They always appear together: standard notation on top, tablature below.

The Explanatory Text

Below the score, a text explains the exercise and offers practical tips for working through it. It also indicates what theoretical knowledge is needed for that lesson and where to find it.

If you need to review the theory before practicing, you have two options directly from the site:

  • Downloads section: you can read the manuals directly on the site without downloading them, or save them as PDFs.
  • Guitar Trainer Blog: in the Theory category you'll find the same concepts explained in depth.

The Organization Menu

At the bottom of each lesson there's a dropdown menu that lets you add the exercise to your favorites list or to any of the seven training lists. We'll cover that in detail in another post.
